See You Barefoot at the Longevity Now Conference

I love love this video of health-pro David Wolfe. He shares his passionate thoughts about the most destructive invention in the history of human kind.

THAT of course.....is the common shoe.

Three Cheers for Cherries - plus you can win $500!

MOVE over blueberries, there's a new high-antioxidant drink in town and some even say it can help you sleep and reduce pain.   So, reach for the red...with Tart Cherry Juice.

This fruit is packin' some powerful antioxidants called "anthocyanins."

Remember that scale called the ORAC Levels I talked about?  (Link to anti-aging foods article.) ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and the higher the ORAC number, the more erasing of free radical damage there is, and that slows down age-related degeneration and disease.

Tart cherry juice blocks the enzyme that creates inflammation in your body, so if you have any kind of  pain, especially in your joints, it's worth a try.  It also can help fight heart disease in that it can lower your tri-glycerides.  It's been linked to reduce belly fat!  (I'm soooo on board with that.)  It's a natural source of melatonin, which will help you sleep.  I bet it also makes you make funny faces after you drink it, too!

Brunswick Labs discovered that tart cherries contain a class of compounds that act like super oxide dismutase (SOD), which is a powerful enzyme and cellular antioxidant.  This is cool cuz very few natural foods contain SOD.

Okay, so I guess there's a Cherry Marketing Institute (CMI) that did its homework on tart cherries:
"Ongoing research shows that tart cherries are a rich source of antioxidants, including melatonin, which may help to relieve the pain of arthritis, gout and possibly fibromyalgia . To date, no other fruit or vegetable has been found to have the pain relieving properties of tart cherries. In addition, the antioxidants in tart cherries can help fight cancer and heart disease. Research also shows that tart cherries contain significant amounts of melatonin, a powerful antioxidant that is considered more potent that vitamins C, E, and A because it is soluble both in fat and water." (Source: CMI)
Well, there ya go.

Got pain?  Choose cherries!  There's even a Red Recovery Routine to help athletes manage and minimize their pain.

Now, there's still a few Tart Cherry toppers on the ORAC scale, but these are a little more obscure:

Acai berry, freeze-dried - 102,700 ORAC

Maqui berry, juice  (a purple berry from the Patagonia region of South America) - 40,000 ORAC

Cool to go for a higher ORAC, but if you need a remedy for pain relief or want to lower your cholesterol, makes sense to GO RED !
