A Star Remedy For The Blotchies...

In a recent interview, Denise Richards and Ali Landry recently spilled their "celeb" beauty secrets.

DO tell....

Both of them dutifully recommended drinking plenty of H20 - but Miss Richards buzzed about a treatment called Cosmelan.  It sounds like a foo foo martini drink, and I haven't heard of it so thought it was worth a post.  It's a treatment for hyperpigmentation and melasma, which is just a fancy- schmancy word for sunspots and the blotchies.  Cosmelan decreases melanin from the skin by inhibiting an enzyme called tyrosinase, which is involved in the manufacture of melanin.  Richards also claims it's great for minimizing pore size.

THIS sounds like the miracle treatment I'm looking for to fight the little brown patches that seem to keep sprouting up !  Minimized pores?  B O N U S !

It's a two step dealy - the first step is a mask applied by your derm doctor.  It's left on for a whopping 4-8 hours ....then the second step, called Cosmalen 2, is a topical cream you apply at home to prevent more brown spots from surfacing.

Cosmelan 1 - Mask (10g) ingredients:

  • Azelaic Acid, Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Arbutine, Titanium Dioxide

Cosmelan 2 – Maintenance Cream (30g) ingredients:

  • Titanium Dioxide, Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid

Mesoestetic - Hydra Vital Factor K Cream (50ml). This pack includes:

  • Hydro nutritional cream for face and neck. Hydroviton, Vitamin K, Vitamin E, Amniotic fluid, Glycerine, Silicone oil.
Hydroquinone (usually used in lightening creams and not so good for you) in my book, is a no-no, and the Cosmelan treatment does NOT have it, so you can use it long-term to even prevent pigmentation irregularities from coming back.  HOWEVER, quoting from a press release, Titanium Dioxide has recently been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen ''possibly carcinogen to humans''.  BUT this is based on research that pertains to the Titanium Dioxide DUST (powered) where rats developed lung cancer upon breathing it in.  Crappity Crap....isn't it always SOMETHING?  So best to ask your doctor about any associated risks.

Now get this - Results in most cases start after ONE WEEK with significant results after  2 to 4.  So this is a faboo alt if you are sick and tired of doing that home lemon juice wipe, or if you simply have zero patience to wait the expected 8-12 weeks with other lightening creams.  Or perhaps if you have a birth mark that you really want to clear.

Cosemelan is NOT a chemical peel so it IS milder than a peel, however afterwards, your skin may turn red and look like a mild sunburn.  You may flake a little too, but this skin is replaced by new lighter colored skin.  You may have some burning and itching sensation for up to 48 hours if you have sensitive skin.  After the first 48 hours these side effects disappear for most people.  Way less downtime than a highly acidic chemical peel....

Nothing painful about this treatment...until you get to the price tag.... 600-800 smackers.   But for some of you, if the price point isn't bothersome, it's a super quick, albiet temporary way to remove blotchy spots with limited side effects (redness and itchiness) just lasting two days.

The Cosmelan.org site says:  "For noticeable results, it is advisable to use it subsequent to a Cosmelan treatment. But people may obtain the desired results even by using Cosmelan 2 independently."

Mmmmmmmhhh - so that brings the pricey tag down a couple pegs to....I dunno.... REALITY ?  You can even purchase Coemelan 2 from Amazon but need to see a dermatologist for the full Cosmelan treatment.

OH, one last pickey note:  The interviewer asked Denise Richards:  "What's your beauty REGIME?"

HELLO, girly, a "regime" is a mode or system of rule or government...what you meant to ask is "What's your beauty REGIMEN?"

I'm just sayin'!!   At least everyone understood the question and it resulted in some advice that gives the following groovy results:

Wicked fast results - and shared and recommended by a Hollywood beauty.... worth a look-see.   Nothing like sharing secrets to spread the beauty wealth...  THANKS DENISE !  And please tell your friends to share too!
